You must have heard about Samsung offering 50GB of free Dropbox space for two years to Galaxy S3 owners. That is quite a deal, given that Dropbox offers 50GB space for $99 per year. For the prospective Galaxy S3 owners, this could mean a savings of $198. While this offer was supposed to be for S3 owners, anyone with a rooted Android device can have the free Dropbox space (courtesy xda-developers – thread deleted). I am using GooManager for the tutorial below, but you can use ClockworkMod Recovery for the same. (see the instructions at the end of the post to install GooManager and ClockworkMod Recovery). Now you are ready to claim your free Dropbox space – here’s a step-by-step guide (you can carry out all these steps on your Android device).
- Download the Dropbox installation file here. Make a note of where the file is saved (typically the Downloads folder). If you already have Dropbox on your device, make sure that you wipe that clean (you may use Titanium backup for the same).
- Open GooManager and select “Flash ROMs”.
- You will see a list of files in your GooManager directory. Since the Dropbox installation file was downloaded in a different directory, you need to manually add it. Use “Add ZIP from another location” to add the zip file.
- Once you have selected the ZIP file, tap “Order & Flash selected”
- Finally click Flash.

Your device will now reboot into recovery and GooManager will install Dropbox for you. Once your device reboots, you should see Dropbox installed on it. Create an account, if you do not already have one, or log into your existing Dropbox account. If you have followed these steps correctly, you should see an email notification informing you about the additional space ![]()
Please note that you get the bonus space for only 2 years. So, hurry up before Dropbox stops this…
