Mexico is a popular destination for international callers, especially within the US. This is not very surprising given the number of things Mexico shares with US (including a common border). Here is an option that claims to offer cheap long distance calls to Mexico.- MexLD. Let us compare and contrast MexLD with other options to make calls to Mexico.
MexLD – Mexico long distance calling
MexLD, like IndiaLD, offers a bucket of minutes for a fixed price with a monthly validity. You can buy a monthly package ranging from 500 minutes to 3000 minutes, as the rate of 1.3 US cents per minute. Mind you, these rates are only applicable for landlines. Also, the coverage is limited to some cities (check coverage here). MexLD offers the following packages:
| Monthly Minutes | Rate | Total Cost |
| 500 | 1.3 ¢/min | $6.50 |
| 1000 | 1.3 ¢/min | $13.00 |
| 2000 | 1.3 ¢/min | $26.00 |
| 3000 | 1.3 ¢/min | $39.00 |

MexLD offers standard calling card features, such as PINless dialing or speed dial numbers. To make calls, just dial their local access number (530 645 5555) and then dial the number that you want to reach. You can add multiple phones to your account, enabling you to share your account with multiple people. MexLD does not offer SIP, so you will use your local plan minutes while making calls using MexLD.

Is MexLD the cheapest calling option to Mexico?
MexLD compares favorably against even Betamax VoIP providers, such as Rynga or Jumblo. However, if you are calling to Guadalaraja, Mexico City, Monterrey, other VoIP service providers such as Localphone have similar or even better rates. Even if you are calling other cities, Localphone rates are marginally higher, but you do not have to make any monthly commitments. Remember, you cannot rollover over unused minutes in MexLD. Also, Localphone provides you with a wide range of options to make calls (see our earlier review of Localphone).
If you really talk for long, i.e., your monthly calling exceeds 750 minutes, you would be better off using unlimited Mexico calling from CalltoPBX for $10 or Vonage world plan for $14.99.
In summary, I will not advocate MexLD unless your situation is very specific. You would be better off using some other provider, effectively making cheaper calls than MexLD to Mexico.
