Today we review another new VoIP calling card service that is targeted towards users from the Indian subcontinent (India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh) – PCO4NRI.
For those who are wondering what a weird name that is, PCO stands for Public Call Office and NRI stands for Non Resident Indians. PCOs are the equivalent of pay-phones, where you use coins to make calls and are generally affordable than making calls using mobile phones or landlines (because of the absence of rentals). Despite its name, you can make calls to various countries other than India, such as Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, Singapore, and UK. So, let us look at PCO4NRI in little more detail.
PCO4NRI Service Plans
Unlike most VoIP service providers that have one standard plan, PCO4NRI has 3 service plans to suit your calling pattern. Rates ($/min) for various destination for the three plans are given below:
| Destination | Value | Traveler | Unlimited Conversation |
| India | 0.02 | First 210 sec – 0.049 Over 211 sec – 0.039 |
0.401 |
| Pakistan | 0.081 | 0.081 | 0.081 |
| Pakistan (Mobile) | 0.084 | 0.084 | 0.084 |
| Bangladesh | 0.039 | 0.039 | 0.039 |
| Bangladesh (Mobile) | 0.036 | 0.036 | 0.036 |
| Sri Lanka | 0.109 | 0.109 | 0.109 |
| Sri Lanka (Mobile) | 0.073 | 0.073 | 0.073 |
| Hong Kong | 0.012 | 0.012 | 0.012 |
| UK | 0.016 | 0.016 | 0.016 |
| UK (Mobile) | 0.824 | 0.824 | 0.824 |
| Singapore | 0.015 | 0.015 | 0.015 |
As you can see from the above table, these service plans are relevant only if you want to call India. For other destinations, the call rates are the same irrespective of the plan.
In case you want to make calls to India and are not sure which plan is the best for you, here’s your answer.
- Value Plan – This is the perfect plan, if you make very short calls (average call duration of less than 2.45 minutes or 147 seconds).
- Traveler Plan – If you make short calls (average call duration greater than 147 seconds, but less than 12.5 minutes or 750 seconds)
- Unlimited Conversation Plan – If you make long calls (average call duration greater than 12.5 minutes)
Please note that these calculations are based on the assumption that you are not using their toll free access number, in which case the rates will be higher.
To make calls, you can dial their local access numbers (available in most cities in the US) or their toll-free number and dial the destination number in the format 011 + country code + Area Code + Destination Number (e.g., 011 91 22 2222 2222). You can configure your phone number so that you do not have to enter the PIN number every time. You can follow our tutorial to automate the calling card dialing process. Further, there are no additional charges and your credits do not expire until a full year. You can recharge your account using your Master Card or Visa credit card.
PCO4NRI does not provide SIP service, so the only way to make calls is through their access numbers.
p.s. For a limited time, you can use the coupon here to make ultra cheap VoIP calls to India for 0.0039 $/min.
