VoiceCentral Black Swan out of beta – Best app to access Google Voice on your iPhone for FREE [Updates]
By Alok Saboo on March 18th, 2010
The last time I wrote about Black Swan, I remember calling VoiceCentral Black Swan as one of the best Google Voice iPhone application. After using it almost 2 months, I am convinced that I was not exaggerating. The last time I wrote about it, Black Swan was in a closed beta and hence not many people could use the wonderful app.
The good news is Black Swan is out of beta, so you do not have to wait to get the lovely app on your iPhones or iPod Touch. More importantly, you can even get it for FREE on your iDevices. Riverturn has pushed out two versions of Black Swan: an ad-supported FREE version and a Premium version. Most users should be able to get by with the free version. The free version allows you to carry out most of the tasks, such as:
- Place calls, send and receive free text messages (SMS)
- Access contacts,
- Manage voicemails, etc.
- Landscape mode throughout the app
You can get access to the free version here. In addition to the features provided in the free version, the premium version allows:
- Importing the photos of your contacts
- Do Not Disturb feature
- Managing Favorites
- Customer Support
If you want to get rid of ads or dying to have the premium features, you can have the premium version for as little as $6 per year. Mind you this is an introductory price and if you act now, you can lock in this price for life time. If you are not sure, you can even try out the premium version for free for 7 days and then decide if you really need the premium features.
Black Swan is under active development. Now that Black Swan is out of the Apple’s idiosyncratic approval process, updates are pushed out in real time. Since the time I last wrote about it, Black Swan has been updated to version 1.0.2 (201003121720). The app is now very stable and snappy. For details on the features of Black Swan, I will encourage you to read our earlier article on VoiceCentral Black Swan. I will provide some latest screen shots to give you a feel of the changes since the previous post. There are not many changes to the user interface, most of the changes are behind the scenes.
The best part is Black Swan does not require you to jailbreak your iPhone. So there is really no reason to not try it out. The only thing you require is a active Google Voice account. If you have any suggestions or encounter any bugs, please leave a comment so that those can be addressed in the next release (the developers are extremely responsive to user feedback).
