CalltoPBX offers unlimited international calls to over 70 countries (incl. India) for $10 [Review]

By Alok Saboo on March 30th, 2010

The warm reception that Vonage World Plan (residential VoIP service) is receiving is motivating other VoIP providers to offer similar unlimited calling plans. Today, we are reviewing an exceptional offer from CalltoPBX, which is way better than Vonage World Plan in all respects. If you have been thinking of unlimited calling options, this offer is hard to pass. So, let’s look at the CalltoPBX’s unlimited calling offer in a little more detail.

What’s the big deal?

CalltoPBX offers a range of options starting from a non-PBX residential account to Premium account (PBX with 10 accounts). The primary offering of CalltoPBX is hosted PBXs, which are targeted to enterprise users. However, it also offers a non-PBX product targeted towards residential users. For the purpose of this post, we will restrict our attention to the non PBX product, Simple Call. Under the Simple Call plan you get:

  1. A SIP account that can be used with any VoIP hardware (ATA), softphone, and even mobile VoIP (mVoIP) clients.
  2. CalltoPBX provides SIP softphones for Windows desktop and mobile SIP clients for iPhone, Windows Mobile, Symbian, and Android platform to enable you to use mobile VoIP on your phones. Remember, you can always use the standard mobile VoIP (mVoIP) clients like Fring or Nimbuzz. To use CalltoPBX on your SIP device, just use the following SIP proxy:

  3. You can make unlimited free outbound calls to over 70 countries. Following is the list of countries that you can make unlimited calls (*Calls to cellular phones included):

Andorra, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bahamas*, Bahrain, Belgium, Brazil, Brunei*, Bulgaria, Canada*, Chile, China*, Colombia, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Guadeloupe, Guam*, Hong Kong*, Hungary, Iceland, India*, Iraq, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Kenya, Latvia, Luxembourg, Macau*, Macedonia, Republic of, Malaysia*, Malta, Mexico, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico*, Romania, Russia, Saipan*, San Marino*, Singapore*, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand*, Turkey, U.S. Virgin Islands*, United Kingdom, United States*, Venezuela, Zambia

  4. You also get some advanced features like call forwarding, Do-Not-Disturb (DND), and voicemail.
  5. You can purchase incoming local number (DID) for as low as $3 for US/UK. Incoming numbers in various other countries can be obtained. For a complete list, visit the link. You can even request an 800 number for additional charges.
  6. ALL THIS FOR ONLY $10 PER MONTH!!! That is right, only $10 per month and it is not a promotional offer. To put things in perspective, the Vonage World Plan, which provides unlimited calls to 60 countries, is priced at $25.99 (although you can have it for a promotional price of $14.99 for 6 months).

Though the company does not provide a precise fair usage policy, it states that:

Your use of any and all of the Services is subject to fair and reasonable use. The Company considers fair use of the Service to be, for each paid Service plan, one hundred fifty-percent (150%) of average monthly customer usage for all such plan customers and, for all free plans or trials, fifty percent (50%) of the average monthly customer usage for the lowest / least expensive paid Service plan customers.

Further the company retains the right to terminate/suspend an account if deemed suspicious or fraudulent or violating its fair usage policy.

Most importantly, there is no contract. So, you can try the service and discontinue if you are not satisfied. For $10, this is a great bargain and I would highly recommend you to give it a try. If you are already using the service, please share your experiences.

    vonage is a great device

  • Alok Saboo

SIP settings do not change by the mobile phone, just use the same SIP settings in your handset and you should be good. I do not have a N95 to provide you with screen shots. But if you are not able to figure it out, send me the screenshots of the account configuration page and I will be able to help you out.

    Thank u

    • Alok Saboo

You may not be able to find a physical reseller in Dar es Salaam, however, you can find some online reseller who will be able to recharge your account. What is the problem that you are facing?

I am using calltopbx service with my SPA-2102 ATA and it seems to be very good. However, there is no guarantee that you will always get connected. They have some down time also. At least 2 or 3 times in a month, it doesn’t work.

More over, it doesn’t seem to connect the call once we talk for more than 2 hours in a day.

    • Alok Saboo

Thanks for the note….this will surely be helpful for other buyers. As regards the 2 hours talk time per day, I am wondering if that is the restriction they place on the amount of calls you can make per day.

  • Vaibhav Gaikwad

Tired of writing mails to calltopbx, I decided to write an open letter to them. Please read it if you also have same problems and give comments. I hope that they read our problems and try to sort out our issues. Help friends.

And I’m not advertising my blog. My blog is ad-free. Increasing incoming traffic doesn’t make me any profit.

    • Alok Saboo

      Thanks Vaibhav for the note!!

I went through your post and I am wondering if the problem is with the iPhone app itself and not so much with the service. I admit that this is also not acceptable, but I will be curious to see your results with another SIP client/ATA. Also, how are other VoIP providers working on your iPhone? Let me know if you want me to test it out at my end.

      Thanks once again!!

      • Vaibhav Gaikwad

Thank you for your reply. I am pretty sure that their iPhone app has various problems, but this seems like a problem with their service.
I tried that same service through FRING and iSIP on iPhone, same results unfortunately. Only good thing is – these app do not crash like theirs.
I use skype on my iPhone for their unlimited US n Canada plan, which works pretty good. Never had any problem with that.
I have used yahoo once when i got limited free minutes offer once. That worked well too. Its just calltopbx.

Thank you for your willingness, but I’d suggest you not to try this at your end. You’re just gonna waste $10.

Only one request : if you can, just add link to my article in your post itself as an update. There must be number of readers who may stumble upon your article while searching reviews for calltopbx. This post can save their money and time as well.

        Thank you, once again.

hello, i stay in dar es salaam, so can u plz help me out from where do i buy this credit

    • Alok Saboo

You can buy the credits from their website directly…

  • Alok Saboo

Just use any SIP client (hardware or software) and configure Calltopbx on it and you are ready to make calls. However, you need to make sure that your Internet service provider is not blocking access to VoIP for the service to work.

  • Cheap Calls

When I’m in the UK I use to make mine
