How-TO Add Custom SIP Account in Nimbuzz [Tutorial]

From the number of comments/questions that I get, it seems that Mobile VoIP (mVoIP) is growing fast. If you are still not familiar with the idea, I would recommend that you read Mobile VoIP (mVoIP) for dummies. Today, I am going to provide a simple tutorial on how to add a custom SIP provider in Nimbuzz. Nimbuzz is a leading SIP client for various mobile platforms, including iPhone, Android, Windows Mobile, Symbian, Blackberry, etc. I will provide a complete review of the Nimbuzz application later, but meanwhile here is a tutorial that will help you started and make cheap of free international VoIP calls from your Mobile. I am using an iPhone for this tutorial, but you can easily follow this tutorial on any other platform. You can even use Nimbuzz on iPod Touch.

1. The first step is to create an account and get Nimbuzz on your phone. Everything is free, so go ahead and do that.
2. Fire up Nimbuzz on your phone and enter your Nimbuzz login details.
3. After you login, you will see multiple tabs. Click on the Phone Calls tab and you will see the contacts in your phone book. If you haven’t added any SIP account, you will only be able to use your Cell Phone to make calls (see picture below).
4. To add other accounts to your Nimbuzz profle, click the “Cell Phone >” button so that you can add other accounts through which you can make calls. You can make calls using your Cell Phone, Skype, and any other SIP account.
5. If you want to use Skype to make outgoing calls, just click Skype and enter your Skype login details and you will be able to use Skype with your Nimbuzz, i.e. you can chat your Skype friends, call your online friends for free, and use Skypeout to make calls.
6. To add any other SIP account, select “Other VoIP Account”. Nimbuzz already has configured setting for a few providers, i.e. you only have to enter your login details and nothing else.
7. For example, if you want to add Gizmo5 account, just click Gizmo5 and enter your login details.
8. But, if you want to add a custom SIP account, select “Other VoIP Account” and enter your account details.
9. You can get the details from your SIP provider. You can find the Jumblo SIP settings, SmartVoIP SIP settings, ActionVoIP SIP settings, and other Betamax SIP settings.
10. Once you have added the details, you can select your SIP account to make calls.
11. Just enter the number and start talking…

If you are using any of the Betamax services (e.g. Jumblo, SmartVoIP, ActionVoIP, etc.), you will be able to make free calls to the free destinations during the free days. Hope this helps you in using your favorite VoIP provider and making cheap or free international calls.

Do not hesitate to write back if you have any clarifications about this or require specific instructions for any specific provider.

i use nokia E50 i have installed nimbuzz and i made sip provider setting for action voip. but everytime it is asking for sip contact no. and i am not able to make a call
• What do you mean by "sip contact no."? Are you able to connect to ActionVoIP at all?

Could you send a screenshot of your SIP settings? Alternatively, you can also reply here with the name of the field and your entry. That will help me pinpoint the exact error.

What can be the reason for my voice not going through when I call a telephone from NIMBUZZ via action voip
• There could be several reasons. I am assuming that you have done the basic trouble shooting like password and otehr such things. To isolate the cause, you could try some steps:

See if it works in a different wifi network. That could indicate that there are some issues with your current wifi network - it may be blocking VoIP traffic.

Try the ActionVoIP account on a different SIP client, e.g., x-lite. If it works, it would mean there is something wrong with Nimbuzz.

Finally, try some other SIP provider on your Nimbuzz client. If that works, it could indicate problems with ActionVoIP account.

Let me know, if this helps or if you have additional questions.

I succesfully sip my samsung i900 with actionvoip but when i call the line disconnecting how i can solve this problem pls let me know
• We can try to pinpoint the exact cause of the problem through some trouble shooting steps. I have provided some trouble shooting instructions here (http://truvoipbuzz.com/2009/09/how-to-add-custo...). These should help us narrow down on the problem. Once we diagnose the problem, we can move to prescription. All the best!!

iam using nokia 5800 which internet calling software support my mobile
• You could then use both Fring and Nimbuzz SIP clients on Nokia 5800 expressmusic. Read our tutorial on how to enter custom SIP accounts in Nimbuzz or enter custom SIP accounts in Fring to use the SIP account. You can find SIP settings of almost all Betamax providers here.

Thank you very much for that very descriptive tutorial. I have managed to set Jumblo sip settings in my Nimbuzz Mobile. But there is a problem. Whenever I make calls, i can't hear what the other person is saying, but that person can hear me i.e. one-way speech. Any solutions for this problem? Thanks in advance.

Hello Buddies,
I wanna use my own switch sip settings in nimbuzz, I treid it but there is an issue in voice, account is registered successfully, call receiver can hear me but I don't receive receipents voice.
thanks
• Did you try using the SIP settings with other SIP client? If it works on other SIP clients then we know that the problem is with Nimbuzz and then I can follow up with them.

How do I dial extension number or conference code after the SIP calls gets connected to speak ? I am using a Nokia 5800 Xpressmusic ?
• You are right in pointing out....Nimbuzz does not offer this capability to dial numbers after connecting the call. This is obviously a huge problems for lot of people who need to dial extensions or PIN numbers. You can use a traditional SIP client that will enable you to dial extensions or other numbers after connecting calls.

• Which VoIP provider are you using? If you can send the SIP details, I can have a look. Meanwhile you can try entering the Proxy server in the domain field and see if that works.
You can find the SIP settings of all Betamax providers here.
