gukPhone offers Flash Phone & 60 minutes Free international Calls [Review]

If you thought using VoIP on your computer would mean downloading and installing those soft phones on your computer, think again!!
Today we review a new VoIP provider, gukPhone, that provides VoIP services right from its website. So you can make cheap VoIP calls from any computer without installing any software. Basically, gukPhone has made the SIP soft phone available in flash format, thus eliminating the requirement to install it separately. This is very similar to the service offered by Bueno that also allows you to make free international calls. gukPhone allows you to try their services by giving you 60 minutes of free international calls. Just follow the process and get talking:
To use the service, just create a new account. Please enter a valid email address as you will receive your activation link and password on this address. After activating your account, you will have to verify your phone number in order to receive your 60 free international minutes. Then you can start the gukPhone and make calls using teh very intuitive interface. Thats it!!

Please note that the free calls can be made only to certain destinations, such as Australia, Austria, Canada, France , Germany, USA, among others. The complete list of countries can be found here. gukPhone claims to offer some “cheap” rates to make calls to other countries. However, for a computer based VoIP service, I am not impressed by the rates. For example, they offer India calling for 5 euro cents, Pakistan for 9 euro cents, etc. You can get a complete rate list here. In fact, these rates are probably on the higher side. The rates are, however, comparable to other service like Skype. So if you are using Skype to make international calls, gukPhone will probably save you a few cents.
They also offer a world package that allows you to make unlimited free calls to 40 countries for a flat 10 euros (approx $14.5) per month. This is comparable to the Skype Unlimited world plan which offers the same service at $12 per month.
In my tests, the voice quality was decent (nothing spectacular). I would rate the call quality as average. Overall, I am less than satisfied with gukPhone. They really need to work out a sound value proposition to make the service more compelling. Having said that, go ahead and give them a try and at least make 60 minutes of free international calls.
If you have a feedback, please leave a comment so that gukPhone can improve their services.
