How to receive Free Incoming calls on Skype without SkypeIN [Tutorial]

By Alok Saboo on June 30th, 2009

For all its shortcomings (closed network, high calling rates, etc.), Skype is going (very) strong. Skype has some good options for making cheap unlimited international calls. However if you want to receive calls on Skype, you need to pay $18 for 3 months or $60 for a full year for a SkypeIn number. Here’s a great tutorial to receive calls on your Skype account without paying these exorbitant charges.

Ring2Skype provides a great method to receive calls on your Skype account for FREE. It is also surprisingly easy to use. All you need to do is register for an account, you only have to enter your Skype id and the region where you want the your number. Currently, you can select regions from NYC, California, Florida, Maine, and New York only. Honestly, this is still a good selection.

Ring2Skype registration screen Once you have completed the registration, you will get a local number for your Skype ID.

That’s it!! Just circulate this number to your friends/family and you are ready to receive unlimited free calls on your Skype account.

That is not all, you can also use RingSkype to make free calls to your Skype contacts. All you need to do is click the “Add a new number” (look at the above image) and you can enter the details of your friend to get a local number.

Ring2Skype add free skype numbers

Note, however, that Ring2Skype only provides free USA number. If you are outside USA, you can make unlimited free calls to USA and Canada using Bueno or use iCall on your iPhone to make free calls to USA. Also, if you are using Skype, I would again remind you to try Skype Phones.

Now you can make free calls to your Skype contacts and also receive free incoming calls on your Skype account…isn’t that great!!!

I am not entirely sure about that, it depends on where you are calling from. If you are calling from within the US (or if you are using one of the free USA calling methods discussed on the site), the rates are no different that what you could pay if you would call any other USA number. There are no additional charges here. I would request you check with your cellular service provider…

  • skype is bull shit

Rings2skype is big bull shit because when i call my mobile skypein number it cost me more than 6 time the regular call rates

Hi I'm John,I got that number (Ring2Skype) and it work. However I receive a message from Skype saying that it is not allowed ! That is, It's a multi user type.It turns out that the number is from a PBX box and Skype don't allow it.They only allow online numbers such as the ones they have only It's not available in Canada….So what good a Ring2Skype number if I can not use It ?…Or I'm I missing on something ? John.

I have used Ring2Skype successfully and never faced such issue. I will look into it again and try to find out what is going on.

Meanwhile, if you could provide me some more details. Which country are you dialing in from? When and what message do you get? Thanks!

hi i try it and its working vrey nice

exorbitant charges????? You’ve got to be kidding. So you are ripping off Skype because you are too cheap to pay $60 or so a year? Get real.

  • http://truvoipbuzz.com Alok Saboo

$60 per year can be a lot of money for many people. Even if it is not, it never hurts to save some money.

Also, I am not sure who is ripping whom. I am ripping Skype by providing information to save some money or Skype is ripping everyone off by charging for something they can offer for much less.

Finally, the information provided on this blog is help people make educated decisions. I am not forcing people to act in any way. You are free to pay $60 per year to Skype and enjoy their services, let others decide for themselves. Isn’t that fair??

With typical smartphone bills getting to around 100/month, 60 a year is peanuts. If you can’t afford 5 dollars a month, you probably should be spending more time getting your finances straight than talking on the phone. Free is always good though, so long as it’s not so much of a pain in the ass that you lose more time than it’s worth to compensate.

For sure, many people will be more than happy to pay $60 a year and that is the segment Skype is targeting. However, please recognize that $60 is not peanuts for many. The average monthly income of people in India, China, and several other developing countries is around $60 or even less. It Africa, many poor do not even earn $15 per month. I am sure, many of those individuals will appreciate this free solution.

thank you for this information. works perfectly. and to the person who said its ripping off skype, its not. when u pay for a skype number you are using skype’s service. when u use ring2skype’s number, you’re using ring2skype’s service who is offering the same thing for free rather than charging. granted you do have to listen to a small advertisement when placing the call its minimal. so donate to ring2skype to keep it free or pay for their ads.

and yes coming up with $60 all at once is expensive to me when i’m trying to cut back on expenses. i get tired of getting nickel and dimed to death.
